Frankel to face "race conditions"

Connections set to attempt to replicate race conditions

Connections hope Frankel will face "race conditions" when he works at Newmarket's Rowley Mile ahead of Saturday's meeting.

Khalid Abdulla's brilliant and unbeaten colt is officially the highest rated horse in the world and the weekend workout is part of his preparation for the QIPCO Champions Stakes after Sir Henry Cecil decided against taking him to France.

Lord Grimthorpe, racing manager to the owner, told Racing UK: "Henry wanted to give him a racecourse gallop. We'd discussed the Moulin as a possible race but on this occasion Henry felt it was a little bit too soon for where he wanted to be to get him to Ascot in the best possible shape. This racecourse gallop seemed to be a good opportunity and Newmarket have been very helpful.

"We're going to try and make it to all intents and purposes like race conditions although whether Frankel is going to be fooled by that is another matter! He will go through all the correct motions i.e. be saddled, take a turn in the paddock, go down and have a good work out over probably just under a mile."

NB - Racing UK will be showing Frankel's gallop live. Frankel is due into the parade ring at 12.45pm and then will gallop shortly afterwards under Tom Queally, alongside stable companions Bullet Train and Midsummer Sun.
