Frankuus the third stakes winner for Frankel

Taken from the Racing Post online, 3rd September 2016:

Flying first-season sire Frankel was represented by his third stakes winner on Saturday when son Frankuus delivered a determined victory in the Listed Ascendant Stakes at Haydock.

It was a one-three in the race for the dual world champion as Cunco, his very first winner, finished a close third.

Frankel's previous stakes winners are Fair Eva in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes and Queen Kindly, who had Fair Eva in third when she scored in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes.

Frankel, who stands at Banstead Manor Stud at a £125,000 fee, has supplied 10 winners worldwide with other leading lights including Senator, Seven Heavens and Toulifaut, all unbeaten in two starts and as yet untried in blacktype company.

Frankuus, who had finished third in the Listed Winkfield Stakes at Ascot in July, was bred by Ballylinch Stud out of the unplaced Linamix mare Dookus.

He is a half-brother to three winners, led by Group 3 Prix Thomas Bryon winner and Group 1 Criterium International third US Law.

Dookus is a daughter of Phoenix Stakes heroine Pharaoh's Delight, who became an important broodmare for Ballylinch Stud, her progeny including Listed scorer Pharmacist, who in turn produced Breeders' Cup Turf and Man O'War Stakes winner Red Rocks.

Frankuus was bought by his trainer Mark Johnston for €130,000 at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale.
