Group 3 winner for Frankel in Japan
Taken from the Thoroughbred Daily News, 6th November 2016:
Mi Suerte (Frankel) kicked off her career with a two-length win in a Hanshin maiden September 24th, earning TDN Rising Star status, and the bay followed up with another display of dominance on Saturday in Kyoto's Gr.3 Kyoto Sho Fantasy Stakes in the colours of Sunday Racing.
Away slowest from the gates and stall one, Mi Suerte raced near the rear of the pack with just two rivals beaten through the opening stages. Traveling three-wide around the turn, she had plenty of ground still to make up as the field straightened, but that proved to be a minor inconvenience.
Gradually grinding down the leaders, the daughter of American Gr.1 winner Mi Sueno (Pulpit) hit the lead in the final furlong under a hand ride and was geared down by Yuga Kawada on the line to win by 1 1/4 lengths and become the fifth blacktype winner for her first-season sire.
Mi Suerte is the third foal out of Mi Sueno, winner of the Gr.1 Darley Debutante Stakes at two. Mi Sueno was initially sold for $1.7-million at Keeneland November in 2007, and reappeared at Fasig-Tipton's November Sale six years later carrying Mi Suerte, where she was bought by Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm for $1.9-million.
Mi Sueno is a daughter of Gr.1 Ashland Stakes winner Madcap Escapade (Hennessy), who is herself a half-sister to Gr.1 Ballerina Breeders' Cup winner Dubai Escapade (Awesome Again).
