With such a strong association between the horse, connections and ourselves, we were very keen to celebrate one of the great racing stories of our time

Frankel Lounge opens at Newmarket Racecourse

Newmarket Racecourse on Saturday officially opened The Frankel Lounge - a celebration of the horseracing legend.

The Frankel Lounge was officially unveiled by members of Team Frankel - including Lady Cecil and Teddy Grimthorpe - on the day of the Juddmonte-sponsored Royal Lodge Stakes - a race that Frankel himself won in 2010.

All racegoers at Newmarket can now enjoy the story of Frankel’s fabulous feats told in words and photography within a stylish and contemporary seafood restaurant, located next to the weighing-room on the Rowley Mile racecourse.

As well as racing highlights from the unbeaten champion’s career being relived, there are profiles of the key people connected to Frankel, who added such flair and depth to a story that transcended the sport of horseracing.

Amy Starkey, Jockey Club Regional Director (East), said: “Frankel had a special relationship with Newmarket Racecourses, successfully starting his career on the July Course before winning two Group 1s – including, so memorably, the QIPCO 2000 Guineas – on the Rowley Mile. His trainer Sir Henry Cecil, so popular with our race-goers, also brought Frankel here for racecourse gallops on two of our major race-days.

“With such a strong association between the horse, connections and ourselves, we were very keen to celebrate one of the great racing stories of our time. In the Frankel Lounge, we feel we have delivered an appropriate tribute that will hopefully be enjoyed by thousands of race-goers over the coming seasons.”

Juddmonte Farms to support Frankel Lounge with interactive touchscreen

Juddmonte Farms is supporting The Frankel Lounge by sponsoring a multimedia interactive touchscreen that will vividly tell the story of the life and times of the champion racehorse.

The touchscreen is currently in development and scheduled to be unveiled at Newmarket’s Craven meeting, next April.

As well as superb photography and career details about Prince Khalid Abdullah’s outstanding horse, there will be video footage of all Frankel’s races, interviews with members of ‘Team Frankel’ and an insight into his life at Banstead Manor Stud where he has completed his first season as a stallion.

It will also chart the story of Juddmonte Farms and how it has become one of the world’s most influential and respected breeding operations.

Philip Mitchell, General Manager of Juddmonte Farms, said: “We are very excited about the multimedia screen and happy to be working with Newmarket Racecourses on their excellent Frankel Lounge initiative.

“I am sure that the touchscreen technology, combined with compelling content, will appeal to Frankel’s many followers. I also hope that it will serve to stimulate further interest in the breeding industry.”
