Frankel colt tops New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale
The first Frankel yearling be sold in the Southern Hemisphere topped the New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale on Tuesday (26th January).
Consigned by Sir Peter Vela's Pencarrow Stud, the bay colt out of Our Echezeaux sold for NZ$1.3 million (£590,830) to a partnership consisting of BBA Ireland, Mr T Magnier, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, the Niarchos Family and Mr A Ng.
Adrian Nicoll, acting for the Niarchos family, said a group had been put together to buy "the best Frankel colt we have seen at auction.
“It was team effort by a pretty international group to secure a horse that has the pedigree and looks and was bred by one of the very best in the business."

Five Frankel yearlings are catalogued for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Australia in April. They include a half-sister to Albany Stakes and Sceptre Stakes winner Kiyoshi, the first foal out of Group 2 winner More Strawberries and a filly who is the first produce of South African Group 1 winner Chocolicious.
