Well-connected Frankel colt tops yearling sale

Taken from European Bloodstock News, 22nd November 2016:

The final sale exclusively for yearlings in Europe, the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale, took place at a wet Park Paddocks yesterday, where the sale topper, at 250,000gns, was a son of Frankel offered by Highclere Stud. Charlie Gordon-Watson saw off a spirited Oliver St Lawrence for the 3rd February born bay.

Sold as Lot 166, the sale topping colt, who was bred by Mt Brilliant Broodmares II LLC, is out of the dual winning Anabaa mare Debonnaire, already the dam of the high-class Hartnell (Authorized), a Gr.3 winner for Mark Johnston, who, having been sent down under by Godolphin, has flourished and won both the Gr.1 Turnbull Stakes and the Gr.1 BMW Stakes. The gelding was also placed in both the Gr.1 Cox Plate and Gr.1 Melbourne Cup this autumn.

Another half-sibling is the Listed winner and Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile runner-up Roz (Teofilo).

Gordon-Watson said: “He is a very nice horse, out of a very nice mare, with an Arc winner [Suave Dancer features under the third dam Suavite] on the page and is out of an Anabaa mare, which I particularly like. My client wanted to buy two horses, but I told him to target this one. He is set to go into training with Ed Dunlop.”

Meanwhile, Lady Carolyn Warren said: “He is a lovely horse. We foaled him at Highclere, he went to the US and failed to sell earlier in the year [$325,000 RNA at Keeneland September Yearling Sale]. He came back to us and has done really well.”
